There Is No Age Limit For Correcting Teeth
When a person needs braces in most cases it is done when they are in their early to mid teens, but no all people have the advantage of getting braces for one reason or another while they are young.
Braces can be placed on the teeth at any age and this is because they move the teeth by using pressure. That means that as long as the teeth and gums are in good condition they can have braces applied to them to correct the teeth or bite problems that can occur.
There are a large percentage of adults that need braces that are now wearing them; the largest difference is that it may require wearing braces longer than they would have when they were in their teen years. The process of moving the teeth is still the same as in younger patients and it is also just as important. It is important at any age to correct the teeth to help keep them healthy, cavity free, prevent wear at an earlier age and have a correct bite pattern.
No matter what age a person is the effect of not having their teeth corrected can cause problems with the jaw, including TMJ and it can also prevent proper cleaning which leads to cavities and gum disease. There is also the benefit for the adult that has had braces, because it will change the appearance and give the adult extra confidence and a smile they thought they would never have.
