Will My Speech Be Changed Because Of Braces?

When the braces are first placed on the teeth, until they are no longer sore and the tongue is used to them there may be some speech problems. Once the mouth, tongue and lips are used to having the appliances on the teeth speech will return to normal. This can also occur when adjustments are done while the mouth is sore, as the teeth become used to the adjustment and is no longer sore the speech will then go back to normal.

Any time there is something foreign in the mouth until all the parts of the mouth are used to it speaking can be changed to include letters that are difficult to say or a lisp, but as the mouth, lips and tongue become accustom to the change speech will return to normal. Even problems like lisps will disappear over time and problems like this can occur anytime to anyone, so there is no need to be embarrassed. A swollen lip can cause problems speaking and as the lip goes down or the teeth and tongue get used to it the speech problem also goes away. This would be a temporary thing and so are speech problems with braces until the mouth is used to them.

The thing that really needs to be thought about is how great the teeth will look and how they will be much healthier when the braces are taken off and the teeth are straight, instead of what speech problems might occur occasionally.
