For most patients with crooked or spaced teeth – Dr. Suzuki will suggest treatment with braces. In the last 10 years – there have been amazing improvements in the braces, wires, and techniques orthodontists use to straighten teeth. Now it is possible to straighten teeth faster, with less pressure, less need for extraction of teeth – all in less time! Most simple cases can be completed in a year or less of treatment time.

The biggest improvement in braces has been the introduction of “self-ligation”. These types of braces do not require the use of tiny elastics to hold the wire in place – and instead perform this function with a built in door that is part of the brace itself. This change has greatly decreased friction in the bracket system and has greatly reduced treatment times as a result. One of the most popular brands is the Damon System® by Ormco. This is the self-ligating bracket Dr. Suzuki uses the most – however similar brackets from other orthodontic companies are also available at Dr. Suzuki’s office i.e. Innovation C® by GAC and the Smartclip Clarity® bracket from 3M/Unitek.

Self ligating braces are beneficial for patients of all ages. Adult patients benefit from them because of the gentle forces and low friction and thus can enjoy faster treatment than ever before.

If you do not wish to have treatment with conventional braces, Dr. Suzuki will also discuss with your treatment options with Invisalign®.

Invisalign® is a computer designed tray system that moves teeth in a similar way to braces but is removable and wireless. Dr. Suzuki will explain to you the pros and cons of straightening your teeth with Invisalign® at your consultation visit with him.
