What Special Care Does Invisalign® Braces Need?

This is unlike other braces because they can be taken off of the teeth to be cleaned and they are also made from different materials and that means they need to be cleaned differently.

They can be bushed just as the teeth would be brushed to keep them clean, however there is also a special cleaner that is made for them because the material they are made from can become clouded and dull. The products that should be used should not be abrasive to avoid scratches that can trap germs and add to the aligners becoming dull.

There are other products that could be used such as denture cleaners but they will not have the same affects as the cleaner that is made to clean these aligners. Then there is also the possibility of cleaning them with baking soda to freshen the aligners and as long as it is not brushed into the aligner it would clean without being abrasive.

In many cases since the teeth can be cleaned after meals the aligner will not become dull and can be cared for with simple bushing, until they are changed for the next set in the series. What ever is used to clean the aligners should be gentle so it will not scratch them, this can leave germs that become trapped in the scratches causing gum infections. The aligners must be cleaned as often as the teeth if they are to be kept clean and free of odors and germs.
