How Will It Feel Wearing Braces?
When the braces are first put on the teeth they will be sore and at the same time they will also poke the lips and cheeks for a few days until the soreness wears off. There is a remedy for this; there is dental wax that can be placed on any hooks or wires on the braces to keep them from irritating the inside of the lips and cheeks.
This is not only because it is something foreign in the mouth but it is also putting pressure on the teeth that they are not used too. As the soreness wears off the lips and inside the mouth will become used to the braces and not be uncomfortable any longer.
This is something new that is introduced into the mouth and will take time to get used to having and then there are times when the arch wire might poke the inner cheek. When this occurs a trip to the orthodontist to have it clipped will take the pain away.
Chewing and eating certain foods can be difficult when the braces are first put on the teeth and after the adjustments are done. During these times it is recommended eating soft foods. There is also foods that can become caught in the braces and while it usually will not hurt it will feel strange until it is cleaned from the braces.
There is also one other thing that can feel odd and even alarming, when the braces are first placed on the teeth after a week or two it is possible that the teeth will feel loose. This is normal and because of the new pressure that is placed on the teeth to make them move into the proper alignment.
