Having Braces Does That Mean I Need To Eat Differently?

There are some things that are recommended not to eat while wearing braces and these are types of foods or candies and other items that make sense not to eat. Items like gum and taffy are not a wise choice with braces. This is because these types of things can cause damage to the wires on the braces and also become trapped in the teeth.

When the braces are adjusted or when they are first put on the teeth, the teeth and gums are often sore and it is recommended that a soft diet will help until the soreness goes away.

Some of the foods that are often suggested are things like yogurt, puddings soft cheese, muffins that have no nuts, chicken salad and meatballs or meatloaf. Other foods can include soft cooked vegetables, fish mashed potatoes, applesauce and ice cream or other frozen treats. Frozen or cold treats can make the teeth feel better when they are sore from having braces put on or adjusted. There are still many nutritious and pleasant tasting foods that can be eaten while the teeth are sore.

Eating soft foods is usually only needed when the teeth are sore; eating regular foods that are normally eaten can resume when the teeth are no longer sore. As long as they are not the types of foods that can damage the braces or the wires, such as caramels, taffy and other things that could loosen the wires or cause damage to the braces.
