Diagnostics From Wilson Radiographic
Diagnostic Records:
Before an orthodontist can plan your treatment, they need to know more about how your teeth are related, if the physical structure of the jaws is playing a role in the malalignment and if the bone and gums around the teeth are healthy. Some things you can see with the naked eye - other things you can't - that is why radiographs (i.e. x-rays) are routinely used by orthodontists. In addition to the radiographs, orthodontists will also make plaster moulds of the teeth and also usually take photographs of the patients face and teeth. Xrays, photographs and moulds are called "diagnostic records" - they represent a "blueprint" of the patient so to speak.
Dr. Suzuki sends all his patients to Wilson Radiographic Center in Vancouver because they take the highest quality radiographs and digital photographs in BC. The equipment at WRC is all digital state of the art equipment including the newest iCat cone beam CT scanner which can take xrays in 3D!
Once the diagnostic records have been made - Dr. Suzuki will typically review these records with the patient before proceeding with treatment. Oftentimes things like wisdom teeth, impacted teeth, the kind of braces or other orthodontic appliances that will be used and major jaw alignment discrepancies are discussed at this "case presentation" appointment. This is done to ensure the patients mouth and teeth are healthy and ready for orthodontic treatment. If any issues arise that need attention - Dr. Suzuki will discuss this with your family dentist and take the appropriate steps to resolve the problem before the initiation of the patients orthodontic treatment.
