What Type Of Special Care Do I Need To Do To Take Care Of My Braces?

Having braces on the teeth means that there are certain things that will need to be done not only to take care of them to keep them clean but also to keep the braces in good condition. This means some of the care will be in what is eaten, some foods can harm the braces, like foods that are hard. It is also not advised to eat caramel, taffy or chew gum; this is because it can harm the braces or the arch wires. This type of food or candy can loosen the arch wire.

Certain foods can be difficult to eat while the teeth have braces on them and it can also be hard on the braces, so it is often recommended to stay away from certain foods like apples and nuts. Not only are they difficult to chew they can also become lodged in the teeth. Soft foods are recommended after adjustments not because the braces could be harmed but because the teeth will be sore for a few days and it is easier to eat soft foods during this time.

Cleaning the teeth can be done in the same way as teeth without braces, with brushing, flossing and a waterpick. The teeth should also be cleaned twice a year by the dentist, this is to keep them free of tarter and decay because even teeth with braces can have these dental problems.
